Colder, Vol. 1 by Daniel Chabon, Scott Allie, Juan Ferreyra, Paul Tobin

4.0

This was a weird one. While having an intriguing premise and crisp artwork, the story of colder felt just a bit rushed. While I am aware of volume 2 (the bad seed), the story presented here could have benefited from either another issue or two or a more focused tone. Although considering the fact that the story is about those who are insane, this focus route would have been more of a detriment than a benefit. The greys and blues of the art bring out the cold and distant feeling of the hungry world and Nimble Jack is wonderfully bonkers, he's one of the best parts of this series. Needless to say, Colder succeeds at being a creepy, strange and interesting idea that just runs a bit too fast and leaves characters like Reece in its dust.
