So I’m giving this book 5 stars because it’s one of the best written books I’ve ever read. I’ve underlined so much of the book to save and go back to later; so many beautiful quotes about love, life, and friendship that I don’t want to forget. Yanagihara’s gift for writing prose is evident.
However, I want it to be known that this is not a perfect book. It does toe, and sometimes cross, the line between tragedy and trauma p*rn. There are characters that are fleshed out in the beginning of the novel that are rarely spoken of again. I don’t think everyone should read this book, but I do think it’s a beautiful story that should be told.
