I didn't know what to expect from this fictionalized version of Malcolm X's history. I would call it enlightening, in that I had no idea how rough his childhood has been. The problem for me is that as he goes into the wider world, his time as a hustler gets monotonous. I think some of that is intentional, that the reader is supposed to feel how wearying his experiences are and to set the stage for his conversion. Fascinating book.
