When Marnie Was There by Joan G. Robinson
4.0

Haunting and charming story. It's hard to say much about the plot without spoiling it, but here goes. Anna, a child who always feels like she's on the outside looking in, is sent to the country for her health. Once there, she feels an odd affinity for the Marsh House and begins a friendship with the little girl who lives there.

This was adapted by Studio Ghibli into a movie. Both this book and the film are worth your time.
