All Systems Red by Martha Wells

3.0

All Systems Red is the first in a series of science fiction novellas centering around ‘Murderbot’, an android who has secretly hacked his governor module allowing him a measure of autonomy and freewill. When he isn’t working for his employer as a security bot he is watching soap operas and avoiding awkward encounters with humans at all costs.

This read as though Martha Wells created an entirely unique and lovable (albeit it AWKWARD) main character but did not have the writing skill or plot to properly support or showcase him. I do plan on reading the second novella in the series as I do hope Wells is able to better hone her craft as a writer as she progresses with the storyline and do justice to the concept of Murderbot. 3.5
