Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me
by Mariko Tamaki
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
Character
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
No
Diverse cast of characters:
Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
This one started out SO strong, and I really thought I was gonna get into it…and then the main character just kept falling into the same patterns over and over again, and being a terrible friend. It got exhausting after a while. There’s definitely some value here in this book and in these characters, particularly for queer teens. None of them were just developed enough for any of it to matter much in the end.
