It’s not like I didn’t like this book, is that it left me with a strange sense of loss after. The first part of the novella was very compelling. The second one less so, since I liked the brother-in-law the least. But the third one made me cry. It is very much the heart of the book, and where the text’s themes finally surface. I know people who could’ve thought those very same words “I felt like a child who had never lived,” and I, not too long ago have felt. The culture and the themes mirror many elements of my childhood, and it’s a glimpse into who I could’ve been.
Despite this, I cannot really make sense of the ending. Maybe it’s where this hollow feeling comes from.
