Roadqueen: Eternal Roadtrip to Love
by Mira Ong Chua
I thought the art here was just to die for. Cute, pretty, I can definitely see why this was marketed as a manga. There’s a lot of Kill la Kill inspiration in this book.
Story wise, though? It was okay. The first part of the book was clearly conceived separately from the rest of the book; it has a very different tone, a slightly different art style, and a definite ending. The second half of the book tries to connect to the first but it changes the original interpretations of the first part of the story, which I found frustrating because I kinda liked that better. A fun part of this, though, is that the author just uses queer in-group language without a thought. I can imagine the straight boys picking this up off a manga shelf at Barnes and Noble, wondering to themselves what the heck a 'useless lesbian' is….
