Haunting in every sense of the word; unflinchingly conveying to the reader the horrors of slavery and it's distortion of what it means to love and be loved. I adore how Morrison can conjure such humanly flawed characters, neither condemning nor forgiving their actions. It's more than clear why this is considered her magnum opus. The ghost of America's past can never be forgotten.
