My Own Story by Emmeline Pankhurst

4.0

While being interested in the Suffragettes anyway, the film definitely sparked an even more intense interest and made me want to read the book, and I did!

This book did take me a while to read as I stopped in between, mainly because the political elements and jargon, for me personally were quite difficult to wrap my head around. But with that aside it is most definitely worth persevering with.

The final part of the book was my favourite, in particular Emmeline Pankhurst's incredible speeches, of which there were many had me very fired up at points and so eloquently constructed.

While we all know the general struggles the Suffragettes went through to gain the vote, this book does not shy away from giving the extent to which they risked their lives which proved to be very moving and thought provoking.

All in all a wonderful book depicting the courageous struggle the suffragettes went through. Would recommend to women (and men) everywhere.
