I was excited to read this because I loved the first one but I was honestly quite disappointed with this one. I really struggled to get through it - it felt a bit like information overload at some points and I don’t think I was invested in Tella’s story as much as I would have liked a bit of a continuation of Scarlett’s (which I assume will happen in the next instalment of the series).
I also found that, because the first had so many twists that could just be explained by the nature of the game of Caraval, that there was basically no point trying to work out the mystery of this book, with regards to the question of how real this game was (which Tella is constantly debating), which takes a bit of the fun out of a mystery novel. With that being said though, the hint in the middle of this book about Legends identity was too obvious, to the point that I’m really not sure why Tella was so surprised when we’re basically told outright.
Having said that, once again, the world Stephanie creates is wonderful, and the last 100 pages of the book were very engaging, so regardless of having to force myself through most of this book, im still invested enough to want to know how this series ends.
