One thing about the Weyward women, they endure.

The story follows the life of three of the Weyward women across different centuries. Kate 2019, Violet 1940's and Altha 1600's. Set in the English countryside. The novel does discuss rape and domestic violence so reader be aware.

The writing was beautiful and simplistic. It flowed like a brook. The countryside description was sublime and the attention to describing the plants, animals, and insects really brought the words to life in my mind.  This book has three different stories woven into one. The transitions and weaving of the narratives is seamless and it did lend to me to keep reading so I can find out what happens next and how these lives intersect. However, if you are not a fan of time-shifts this may not be the novel for you.

Kate was definitely a character who is battered and broken when the story starts, but she does grow throughout and finds her voice, strength, and purpose.  Violet was a fighter through and through and though robbed of her innocence, she finds her resolve to not give up, growing up without her mother she feels as there is something missing in her life. Altha  is a mixture of both Violet and Kate and when you first meet her she is on trial, being accused of murder through witchcraft.
