The Gay Revolution: The Story of the Struggle by Lillian Faderman
4.5
A thorough, well-researched, and well-written book. It is a slow read, owing to its length, depth, and often difficult content, but going at your own pace helps reflect on that history and its implications. This was published in the U.S. the same year same-sex marriage was legalized throughout the country, and it's wild to see how much has changed in some ways, and how little has has changed in others.
Despite being such a brick, I still found myself occasionally wishing a passage gave more context, and other times would get stuck on unclear wording. It helps to be at least a little familiar with the topics then, but either way, it makes for a good foundational text.
