Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Set in a dystopian future, Cinder is a cyborg, effectively owned by her stepmother, having no rights herself.

The world is not as we know it. Earth is on the brink of war with the Lunars - those that reside on the moon - and to make matters worse, a new plague has been running rampant amongst the Earthens.

Somehow, Cinder might be the key to an antidote, and along the way, she may be able to help Prince Kai prevent the war.

Ahhh this was so good! I’ve heard great things about this series, and even though it’s marketed for ages 9-12 it really didn’t feel like a YA book.

It was gritty, thought-provoking, suspenseful, and I thoroughly enjoyed it all. I love how sarcastic Cinder was - truly a girl after my own heart - and her relationship with Iko was sweet. Really hoping that Adri and Pearl get their comeuppance though; they are truly awful.

Since I went in blind (as per usual) I thought each book would be a standalone, but this one ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger so I was clearly wrong.

Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out!
