I really wanted to love this one. I did like it. But it was maybe a bit too cozy for me. It takes a really long time for the characters to meet and once they do, I don’t feel their chemistry. You could call it a slow burn but it really doesn’t smolder or build tension; it is more like it spontaneously combusts late in the third act. And I wasn’t really into it. 🌶️
The format is written like the FMC’s research monograph, complete with footnotes. It is cute at first but doesn’t really add anything to the story so I mostly found it a distraction.
The MCs don’t face any real adversity and so it all comes together neatly, which may be totally your thing. But I needed a bit more than cuteness to feel invested in the characters. Again, I think it just may not be my thing. But you may want to check it out.
If you do, you can expect: cozy romance; he falls first; curvy FMC; WOC FMC; FMC is a woman in STEM; shifter and primal play. Lots of good stuff. I enjoyed it but didn’t love it.
