The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
2.0
I was incredibly excited to read this, figuring it would easily be a strong 4-5 star. How wrong I was. It was soooo disappointing and painful.
The first 250 pages were 5 star for me. Fantastic. The descriptive passages were extensive although were apt at creating this magical underground world. I was fully drawn in, enjoying the poetic nature of the passages.
Then the last 250 pages hit. 1 star.
The repetitive repetitive repetitive boring nature of the second half was agonizing. I wouldn't be surprised if numerous pages from the first half were inserted into the latter pages. Nothing new enough happened. The story fell completely flat. Again there was more page after page of the same exact descriptions. Repetitive. It was painful, boring, pointless......I wanted it to end so badly. I didn't care for the characters anymore....they were doing the same things with no development really. I mean, there was some storyline sort of at the end but it was not engaging.
The editors should have dropped 150-200 pages of this novel. What a mess in the end.
