Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack
4.0

While not everyone is going to thrill to Daniel Haack's Prince & Knight, it is every bit my particular cup of tea. I try to imagine what life might have been like if I'd experienced a book like this when I was growing up, that showed me greater possibilities in the pursuit of love than was encouraged or even allowed. What's really great about this book is that it is a story about a Prince, not a book that delivers a "you" message about being ok as you are - not that there's anything wrong with those. This book just tells a story, free of judgement, that might resonate with a child, or may for them simply be a fairy tale (no pun intended) complete with a dragon-slaying knight. For parents who might sense that their child is "singing a different tune", to quote the book, tucking this book into an armful from the library might be a key to unlocking that child's thoughts and feelings about attraction. This gentle story about finding true love, also includes the momentary adventure when Prince and Knight join forces to defeat a dragon, and is given a Disney-esque set of full page illustrations by Stevie Lewis that rival any cell from an animated feature film.
