I enjoyed reading this Black historical fiction, it reminded me of Bridgerton in a lot of ways. I expected the romances to all come to complete ends, but surprisingly, it ended differently than I thought. I did find a lot of the book to be the characters being afraid to tell their parents who they wanted to be with, which at first was entertaining, but by the end gets very repetitive. I think I would have liked a stronger arch pushing everything along. Or, I’m maybe just not as much of a romance girl. Either way, it was a solid read.
