The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate
4.0
I loved this book, but I have some mixed feelings.
Hannie's story is so well written ... so involved ... I could feel where she was ... I was fully immersed.
Benny's story is ... predictable. The white teacher swooping in to save the poor, mostly BIPOC students. I have so many "why?" questions about this character. Why is she white? Why is she shallow? Why does she have a secret? Why does there have to be a romance?!? She could have been a much deeper character to match the level of Hannie.
The overall story of Lost Friends is amazing. The author includes actual copies of the ads from the newspaper. Heartbreaking.
