Dust Storm by Maggie Gates

5.0

I’ve had this series on my TBR for so long and a few friends and I decided July was the month to get it done. I am very much a cowboy romance girl but this book was something special even if I wasn’t. I have this thing where I don’t picture characters while I read, however, for this one, I was able to imagine a mix of Alexis Schitt and Goldie Hawn in Overboard. City girl turned country….single dad…sign me right up.  Though my friends did not have the true appreciation for Cassandras attitude (which I can totally understand), I adored her sass from the very beginning. She was so authentically herself in the best ways, but also had a lot of self-discovery needed in her healing journey. Ten years a widow, Christian has had a lot of time for self-reflection and healing and is the most dedicated father to his girls. He grew out his hair so he can teach himself hairstyles to do on his girls ?! COME ON. He fought right through Cassandra’s uptight prissy self and put her right in her place. He broke her walls down in the meantime and gave her an opportunity to be loved by his whole family in a way she’s never had before. The relationship with Cassandra and the girls throughout the book is just incredible - our single dad fears the impact having a new woman in his life will do, meanwhile she’s the fierce, independent girl boss he didn’t know they were missing.

The transition to get us to the second book makes it a no brainer to keep right on moving to the next one. Don’t sleep on this series. Or Maggie. Go grab these covers before they are out of print (but will re-release with brand new ones!)
