Two years after defeating Grath - and discovering the possibility of bonding to different materials - Ceony is weeks away from her magicians exam. She hasn't told anyone, even Emery, about her practices with glass, fire, rubber, etc. in part because it is supposedly impossible. However, Saraj, an old enemy, knows of her abilities. When he escapes custody on his way to be executed, Ceony goes after him, using everything she knows.
I think that this book was a [mostly] great finish to the series. I feel like a few questions didn't get answered (i.e. what they will do with the knowledge that material bonds can be broken.) However, I liked the way that the author ended their search for Saraj, the question about what else Excisioners can bond to, and Ceony & Emery's relationship. All in all, it was [mostly] tied up in a nice, delightful package.
