THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V. E. SCHWAB

Fantasy? Nah, not really.

500+ pages? Um, only if it’s really worth it.

Hyped book? You say jump and I’ll say how high!

So that was me going into this book... and I needn’t have worried because the hype is real! It’s a really great book.

What’s so great about it is that it combines many genres; there’s fantasy, of course, there’s the historical element, the modern, contemporary New York City side and the seventeenth century rural France. There are fit lads and fit gals who like kissing fit lads and fit gals, so there’s plenty of romance.

The characters are cool and well explored, although not necessarily well-developed but I’ll take that with a pinch of salt seeing as this is definitely more plot driven than character driver. That would ordinarily put me off, but the settings and storyline were powerful enough on their own.

My favourite thing about this book is the juxtaposition between old, rural France and modern, urban New York. The writing is so good it felt like SCHWAB had crafted every sentence with care.

I also really appreciated the ending and I’m looking forward to discussing it with my buddy read group, who were great fun throughout this read: @podsticles @diaryofabookmum @book_club_mumma @rina1986_reads @thefloatingbookworm @rubysreadingcorner @readingmumoftwo @bookfacejames

What was your favourite element of this book? And if you haven’t read it, are you planning to?
