Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz
4.0

Actual rating: 4,5 stars

Anatomy was a beautiful surprise that I enjoyed much more than I expected and reminded me a lot of another beloved series, Stalking Jack the Ripper. It’s a slow burn, but I was having such a good time discovering all the gruesome details of the anatomy and fascinating characters, all in a breathtaking atmosphere that I had no trouble flying through it.

As someone who isn’t a big fan of romance, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it didn't take up as much space as I feared. However, I think it is misinterpreted as a romantic historical fiction when it’s anything but.

If I had anything to criticize though, it would be the brevity of the book. The romance, Hazel’s passion for anatomy, the Roman Fever, the mystery of the disappearance of the poor people, it was a lot for such a short book, and it feels like almost none of it was developed to its full potential because of that. The reveal of the big mystery was quite predictable, but I’m still highly anticipating the sequel.
