This book cracked me up sometimes! It has funny lines and satirical moments regarding society, hubris, etc.
I grew up on the classic Universal Monsters, so I was familiar with this story. I love how it begins in such mystery, with a bandaged stranger arriving at a rural inn. We don’t learn his name or his full intentions until much later in the novella.
I don’t know how Wells did it, but he explained the “science” behind what happened to the stranger in an accessible and believable way.
Overall, this is a fun classic containing commentary on the human condition and “oh no, not the consequences of my actions!”
I also recommend both the 1933 and 2020 film adaptations. The 1933 adaptation is almost exactly like the book and well-made for the concept at the time!
