Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

5.0

I will start by saying that I very much enjoyed this book, and the Rosamund Pike audio version was particularly charming. But I’m not sure what makes this book the absolute favorite of so many people. It was diverting, dramatic, and Elizabeth’s dialogue sharp... but ultimately it was an entertaining story about money and marriage. I am sincerely interested in learning more about what makes this book as loved as it is.

Update: Reread this one and increased the score from 4 to 5 stars. I really enjoyed it this time when I wasn't as focused on the plot and the characters, and could pay more attention to the writing. Austen is a very entertaining writer and her characters are excellent. I think listening to the Hot and Bothered podcast series Live From Pemberley helped me appreciate this book more, and as a reread I found a lot more value in the pure entertainment of it as well. Also Rosamund Pike's narration is truly spectacular - I would listen to almost anything narrated by her.
