Unfortunately this just wasn’t for me. This book relies heavily on the shock value of blood, gore, and guts with a hefty side of animal cruelty, all intended to disturb the reader, without offering an engaging plot or well developed characters to make the book’s morbid offerings feel warranted.
I guess I just wasn’t scared by the threat on the island, I found each of the boys to be extremely one dimensional and formulaic, and I had to skip every part with animal cruelty because I just don’t fuck with that. There’s also only so many times I can read about a 14 year old psychopath’s erection while he’s getting turned on by ~beiNg evil~…
