I've never been (Un)happier by Shaheen Bhatt
3.0

I've never been (un) happier is a courageous book. Shaheen Bhatt deep dives about how living with depression feels like.

She shares her fears, her attempted suicide and her following obsessive fear of death. She also talks about how she tried to avoid facing depression by turning to alcohol. In short there's a lot she says but I don't know how much of it will actually help someone suffering from depression (except for maybe identifying with her words.)

I wish there were practical tips she shared that helps her in her daily life. Yes she is not a professional counselor and this book isn't about 'treating' people with depression. However, when you write a book about a how you suffered from something, shouldn't it have a take away? Shouldn't it have something that helps people suffering from the same condition? like "Hey - I go through this too and when I catch myself having a depressive episode, I do this and it helps me. Maybe you should try it too?" Shouldn't it help people who will read it in hope of something tangible?

Yes she talks about how a therapist is important but that's common knowledge, isn't it?

However, the last chapter about how she finally accepted depression as a part of her life is helpful and hopeful. It just ends before it could begin to make a bigger point.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend it unless you just want to know Shaheen's story which honestly isn't bad.
