Stars and Smoke
by Marie Lu
This is another book I got through Libby. I’m angry that I didn’t know this book existed until very recently. I’m a fan of Ms. Lu and checked this book out immediately as soon as I saw it.

This book follows international pop star Winter Young and secret agent Sydney Cossette from the Panacea Group in a book that is described as a combination of “The Hating Game” and the Mission Impossible film franchise.
Winter is brought in to act as a spy to get in close to shipping magnate Eli Morrison through his daughter, Penelope, with Sydney posing as Winter’s bodyguard with the alias “Ashley”.
The Panacea Group knows that Penelope is Eli’s biggest weakness, which means she is their one ticket to get in close enough to arrest him on several charges. She is a huge fan of Winter, which is why they bring him into the fold for this mission.
This is Sydney’s best chance for a promotion and Winter’s best chance for more fame…if they can survive each other first. Can they do so or will they be yet more casualties of Eli?

This book is definitely outside of my normal go-to book selection. I’m not normally into spy novels until James Patterson is one of the authors. I sometimes don’t even like all of his novels either.
