Binti is a young woman who boards a spacecraft to attend a university across the galaxy, only to find herself in the middle of an escalating war among alien races. The novella quickly establishes the heroine's feeling of otherness, created by the discriminatory treatment she receives from strangers. Ancestral culture and science fiction are blended harmoniously, and the development of a friendship is organic. The message of the book is optimistic and the lead-up to the main conflict is rushed, but the story is creative and well written.
