"Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?": A Psychologist Explains the Development of Racial Identity by Beverly Daniel Tatum

5.0

Everyone should read this book. I know, I know, the information inside might be information you already know, or at least I hope it is, but this book is worth the read.

For one, I’m not a history buff. It’s the class in school I thought I’d fall asleep in. With that being said, this book offers more history than any textbook you were forced to read since it’s proven schools are teaching us white history. It doesn’t read in a text book kind of way, but more of a conversational “oh so this happened, and these are the repercussions because of it” type of way.

Dr. Tatum does not sugarcoat the information inside. In comparison to decades ago, progress has maybe moved an inch, despite what politicians or corporations are telling us (and they tell us we’ve moved mountains).

She also acknowledges that she too, still has a lot to learn, and also recognizes the information could be a tad outdated depending when you read this book. It’s not preachy, purely informative and educational, so it’s a must read in my mind.

I could say more, but you’re better off reading it.
