Familiar
by J. Robert Lennon
A very well written book, making full use of the parallel universe story line to give insights into the randomness of our life choices and how we build our self beliefs on flimsy memories and prejudices. In one passage Lennon describes how actual past events in our lives get replaced in our heads by layers memory: "a copy of a copy of a copy.....So fake it's a new kind of real". For me the only weakness was the ending which seemed a bit loose, but I suspect that was by design, and that anything more concrete would have been too neat and tidy in a novel so full of unanswered questions.
