The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
by L. Frank Baum
AWEEEEEEEEEE
i love love loved this! i expected the book to be exactly like the movie, but there are so many meaningful differences that enhance the story in a way the movie could never. there's also so much that the movie left out?? & i know of course, they can't fit everything-- but damn, they're like missing half of the plot & a majority of the other worlds within the world of oz.
i thought the way the characters were written were so charming; literally the perfecttttt kind for a children's story. the movie depicts dorothy as a damsel in distress, but in the book she's the one constantly saving her friends. also, the movie makes the actual wizard of oz the one who "solves" all their problems & who holds the highest power, but in the book its actually glenda the good witch! my girl!! just little differences like that endeared me more towards the book. i'm kinda sad-- but not surprised-- seeing what parts of the original narrative they decided to leave out of the movie production.
the illustrations were probably my favorite part, as they added such a sweet whimsical element. they were so funny & helped the reader keep pace with the story.
the wizard of oz movie is a masterpiece, but i can rightfully say this book is better. i'm so excited to continue the series now :)
