Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
4.0
This is the sort of book I think only [a:Shannon Hale|49177|Shannon Hale|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1299093233p2/49177.jpg] could have written. While there is a romance element, it's not overpowering, which is one thing I love about Hale's work. While there is a danger element, it's not central, which is probably ideal for MG readers.
I enjoyed this book very much and am looking forward to the sequel, but it didn't blow me away like [b:The Goose Girl|179064|The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1)|Shannon Hale|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1330728389s/179064.jpg|2715267] or the others in its series did.
In short, I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to all fans of coming-of-age literature and MG fantasy.
