Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence

Well that was intense.

Storytelling - I had some qualms about the pacing of the first book not being right in certain area's taking away the emotion, I haven't got those qualms for the second book. I felt all the emotions when I was supposed to. The flow of the book was great & the amount of foreshadowing was better, meaning I didn't anticipate all of the twists and turns.

Characters - I felt a better emotional connection to Nona in this book, she felt a little more whole. I still prefer the side character & hope to see much more of Zole in the third and final book. Each character showed some fault or mistake in this book which really helped make them all more realistic.

World Building - There were elements of the magic system which I didn't really appreciate, they felt a little cheap and simplistic. However, saying that, there was still a lot about the magic system I loved, the shadow work, potions and antidotes especially, and the thread work, were all interesting concepts to me that didn't feel 'overpowered'.

I look forward to the final book, sad I'll be waiting so long before I read another full series from the author.
