Life After Life
by Jill McCorkle
I mistakenly picked this book up instead of Kate Atkinson's Life After Life, which I heard good things about, and I sincerely hope that many other people make that same mistake because this book was fantastic! This story is heavily character-driven but Jill McCorkle makes every character come to life. The only part I disliked about it was how realistic it was - no happy endings for everyone, but a gritty portrayal of humanity living and dying. It's oddly encouraging and incredibly touching to realize that even in a retirement home, people are still changing, still loving, and still making the most of the time they have left.
