The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

2.0

I adored Yoon's Everything Everything and was really looking forward to her newest, but I just couldn't connect with the characters or the book being set over just one day's time. There's no doubt of Yoon's talent, but I'm shocked that this book has gotten the accolades and publicity that it has. PROS: one of the only YA novels I've read where all parents were present in the main characters' lives (shocking! And a nice change from the norm!); loved the chapters from Natasha's and Daniel's fathers' perspectives; adored the inclusion of a mixed race relationship (and extra special that the author and her husband are Jamaican and Korean-American!) CONS: unnecessary vulgar language (e.g. "Jesus Christ bleeding on a popsicle stick!" ... Are you serious right now?!) that made me dislike main characters; short time span; little plot; unrealistic romance; slow moving.

Wanted to love it. Didn't. Darn.
