Goldie Vance Vol. 4, Volume 4 by Hope Larson, Jackie Ball
3.0
This was a good one (re: not great). I appreciated how woke the GN was. Gender fluid characters, LGBTQ leads, every race proving they're smarts and how great they can be at their jobs--without any of it feeling forced. That said, I thought the Scooby Doo-yness of it was a bit too formulaic. Like how many times do I have to read/see a series where the detective makes you think it's one person and then OMG it's actually someone else! Isn't there a new way to catch the real criminal by now?
BUT, I could definitely see me reading this to Luca at a later date, maybe from the beginning. It's way less POW BAM then Hardy Boys, which I like (even if there was a gun involved) and way more Nancy Drew/PG-rated (note: not G, bc of said gun). And while I didn't get some references due to not reading previous volumes it didn't feel totally necessary for me to start at the beginning.
