Defenders Vol. 1: Diamonds Are Forever by Brian Michael Bendis
4.0

Bendis knows these characters forwards and backwards, and his skill at telling stories with them is undeniable. Wrapping up his time in the Marvel universe, Bendis brings together four of the heroes of Hell's Kitchen--with a couple other well-timed cameos--to confront an enemy full of surprises and who poses a greater threat than any of the heroes is prepared for.

While there are moments when it falters, the storytelling is excellent. It is supplemented by art that is occasionally too much but that also has some striking visual moments. It's well-told and leads all the way to a dramatic finish that leaves me wanting to know what will come next.

I always enjoy these characters and Defenders Vol. 1 continues to make clear that Jessica Jones is the outstanding highlight of a generally dynamic cast. It's a solid volume and I await more.

Plus, Skottie Young's variant cover is perfection.
