Dead End Gene Pool by Wendy Burden
3.0

I would say that Wendy Burden's writing actually deserves four stars. I'm giving it three stars just because I didn't get what I wanted out of it, which is partly my fault due to the fact that I didn't research it enough before picking it up. I had been hoping that it would have had more information about the history of the Vanderbilt family, but instead, the book only deals with Burden's immediate relatives. I don't particularly read memoirs/biographies/autobiographies unless I already know something about the person so this was a new experience for me. Burden is a very good writer, which was one of the things that kept me reading (that and our mutual love of Wednesday Addams). Her writing clever and she crafts some very good similes, though at times, I find her descriptions of people can be a bit mean-spirited.
