And the Mountains Echoed is not one story about a brother and a sister. It is a mosaic of echoes stretching generations and continents. Each part tells a different story from the perspective of a different character yet still connected by an echo of a previous one. 

This book is about selfishness and selflessness, about survival and sacrifice, and about never ending loss. And within that loss, there is an occasional smile and a never ending willingness, somewhere by somebody not to give up.
