Trying To Live With The Dead by B.L. Brunnemer
3.5

I mostly enjoy this book. I like the characters, even if it’s more of a guilty pleasure type of liking- similar to admitting liking romance, or especially anything ‘cringe’. I’m not especially into YA/high school settings anymore, and there’s some minor niggling things that bug me, like the I’m not like other girls feel to her interactions, the implication that there’s a level of makeup that is the bare minimum (like no makeup doesn’t exist as an option, which especially doesn’t play well with the ‘not like other girls’ vibe), and a few expressions or variations of expressions that were popular in pop fiction for a while- they haven’t aged well, even if I have a kind of nostalgia for some of what I was consuming at the time. My first read through, before this series was completed and long before the next series (Adult Lexie) was started, pretty sure I would have rated it 4-4.5. Mostly it’s just a better read if you’re closer to the target demographic, and maybe don’t have so many memories of the use and then overuse of some of the tropes/expressions etc
