I'm being kind giving this book 2 stars to be very honest.

I had previously enjoyed this story (when I read it 4 years ago) and I quite liked the previous book in the series but this is truly awful.

There are hardly any redeeming qualities in this story and I honestly found myself disgusted as I read it. There's no way to describe this relationship as anything other than rapey and based off of Stockholm syndrome.

While some may appreciate the whole 'forced seduction' thing, I certainly don't. If the heroine is saying 'no, I don't want this' the entire book then how could people think this healthy or real love. She was still telling him no in the last few chapters! Casey is kidnapped from her home, forced to have sex repeatedly, bound to a man without her consent and impregnated. She then says that's she's fallen in love with him when it's a relationship built off of sex and reliance since he's the only thing she knows in this new world. You honestly can't call it anything but Stockholm Syndrome.

Plus just because the sex is good doesn't make up for the fact that he isn't listening to you and doesn't really care about your feelings. Especially since whenever they have an argument, he chains her up and seduces her. However, she won't hold that against him either, for why should she, as long as she gets to come.

If this wasn't a fictional world where it ends in a happily ever after, people would be horrified. This is the kind of relationship that a heroine has as her tragic backstory before finding the real hero. I feel like if Casey had been able to spend a moment free from Argernon she would have been able to see that the entire situation was fucked. Dub-con to the very end.

Don't read if you like your romance books to be consensual and based off something other than sex.
