This novella is wedged between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War and focuses on Rysn, a Thaylen trader mentioned during multiple interludes throughout The Stormlight Archive. She and The Lopen embark on a perilous voyage to the storm-shrouded island of Akinah to find a cure for her ailing pet while also investigating a potential threat to Roshar.

This was such a fun novella, and I was so excited to see it had Lopen as a main character! I absolutely love his character, and it was good to see him shine and get some screen time throughout this journey while also having some great character development! I also really enjoy Rysn as a character. She is one of the very few that stood out to me from the Sanderson Interludes, and I have enjoyed following her journey.

The reason this wasn’t a 5-star read is because I still couldn’t tell you what a Dawnshard is, and I can’t tell if that’s just because they didn’t explain it well enough, or because it went over my head and I’m just not smart enough to understand what it is…but either way, no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️
