What an adventure this was! I could have read this in a single sitting but I squeezed every last bit of it out as long as I could. The audiobook, narrated flawlessly by Adepero Oduye, clocks in at just over four hours; this book is simultaneously brief and breezy while packing acres into every ten seconds. The chapters are short, snackable, but dense with emotion and memories.
Korede is a great main character. Down-to-earth, resentful of her lot in life and with a passion for syrupy popcorn, she's a perfect foil to her happy-go-lucky and murderous little sister Ayoola. Korede seems to have much more faith in men than Ayoola does; Ayoola is the one who attracts their attention.
The first two words in the books title are far more telling of the content of this story. This is a story about sisters, and it's meaty and messy and deliciously fun. I think you owe it to yourself to try this one out!
