The Caretaker
by Ron Rash
I am a huge fan of Ron Rash, both his fiction and his poetry. My favorite of his novels is One Foot in Eden, but this one was excellent, too. Rash always humanizes his characters, even the potentially evil ones, and shows why people should never use terms like "hick," "redneck," and "white trash." In this, he is a worthy successor to Faulkner, O'Connor, and Welty. Read his books!
