Land of Love and Drowning by Tiphanie Yanique

I really loved this book. I loved how the author wrote and made you feel swept up in magical, lush beauty where time went at its own pace. The characters possessed depth and flaws that made you understand and embrace them. There is incest, particularly in the first few chapters and I did not know whether I could get through it. It wasn't so much violent as it was just uncomfortable and queasy that made it difficult. It certainly has an impact on the character which is shown throughout the book. Still, a very good read.
