I first watched the movie at a very pivotal time in my life. I was in my first year of high school, dealing with severe anxiety and panic attacks. I had never known anyone who acted like I did or who’s brain made them feels less than in the way mine did. And then I saw Charlie. And I saw how awkward and sad and happy and empathetic he was. I’ve never felt more seen in a pice of media the way I did with that movie. Since then it has been in my top movies and holds such a dear place in my heart. Finally getting around to reading this book made me love it that much more.
To Stephen Chbosky, I am forever grateful.
