Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson

5.0

EXCELLENT. i’d never call myself a history buff, but i’ve been deeply interested in shipwrecks since i was a kid, which is why i really wanted to read this. so so well written and riveting in its storytelling and it all HAPPENED. the way this was written contextualizes everything incredibly. it makes a lot of dense and interconnected histories and backstories palatable, and really perfectly paints a picture of the absolute magnitude of the lusitania, what it represented, and how it’s birth, death, and legacy are essential to history.
