This was super dark and I loved it. Even though the misogynistic language sometimes made me cringe, it suited the characters perfectly. The sex slave cult was a bit over the top and definitely disturbing, but seeing the atrocities that Mae had endured made her character arc all the stronger.

In the real world I would hope Mae would get therapy and not trade one horrific cult for a cult of another type (which let’s be real, gangs and MCs basically are like cults). But in fiction, I just ate up Styx and Mae’s fated relationship. I know this series is controversial, but I plan to read through it to make my own assessment. So far, book one starts really strong to me.

Also the audiobook narrators were phenomenal, perfectly capturing the unique accents and cadence of the characters. I’ve downloaded PDF files of the following books to read on my kindle, but I might just continue with the audiobooks if they’re as well performed as this one.
