I expected to like this more than I did, but unfortunately it was largely based around high school miscommunication drama which I find frustrating and unenjoyable to read at this stage in my life. Some characters had decent development but most of them presented surface level reactions and basic immature personalities - while there was a lot of diversity mentioned, most of it was unexplored. It was difficult to find the characters likeable or relatable, even when I have many of the same identities and backgrounds as they did. And while it was an Anne of Green Gables adaptation, it didn't have any of the charm or whimsy for nature that one expects. The bits of unique identities I was hoping would be explored were overlooked in favor of relationship conflict. This one just wasn't for me.
It turns out I've read another book by the same author and gave almost the exact same review - seems like the author's style is not quite my vibe.
